Prof. Thomas Ruzicka

Professor Dr Thomas Ruzicka graduated from the University of Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1977 and carried out his residency in the university’s Department of Dermatology. He then spent two years in research at the University of California in San Diego, USA, returning to Germany to join the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. Professor Dr Ruzicka is Director of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at the Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf, (a post he has held since 1993) and Honorary Doctor of the University Szeged. Since 1995 he has been Chairman of the Biomedical Research Centre of the Heinrich-Heine University and the Collaborative Research Unit 503 of the German Research Council.

Professor Dr Ruzicka’s research interests include metabolism of inflammatory mediators and cytokines in inflammatory dermatoses, molecular biology of cutaneous inflammatory reactions and carcinogenesis, biochemical pharmacology of the skin and photobiology. These interests are reflected in his publications, which include more than 400 original articles and five books. He is also a well-known speaker and presenter, having submitted 400 abstracts of lectures and posters.
