A Canadian, 4-week, multicenter, single-arm, open-label study was conducted in 59 patients (18 years and older) with scalp psoriasis to determine whether psoriasis-related genes are differentially regulated in hair follicles. Patients with scalp psoriasis received daily treatment with clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05% which was left in situ for 15 min before lathering and rinsing. Clinical scoring was done with Modified Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (MPASI), Total Severity Score (TSS) and Global Severity Score (GSS) assessments. The expression levels of 10 inflammatory-related genes (IL8, DEFbeta4, S100A7, S100A0, S100A12, LCN2, IF27, PBEF1, HPSE and PPARdelta) were significantly increased in psoriatic hair follicles.
