Open-label, single-center pilot study to evaluate antifungal activity of a novel nonsteroidal cream in volunteers

A 7-day, open-label, single-center pilot study to determine the antifungal activity of a new nonsteroidal cream (Promiseb Topical Cream™; Promius LLC, containing MAS064D) was conducted in 10 healthy male volunteers aged 24-61 years. The cream was applied twice daily for 7 days to the chest area and the number of colony-forming units of Malassezia spp. was counted by tape stripping after a week and compared with baseline. The percentage reduction of Malassezia units was 94% on the treated side versus 49% on the untreated side (P = 0.03). No serious adverse events were documented.
