Treatment of pediatric atopic dermatitis in patients with specific IgE and IgG4 to cow’s milk

The influence of the probiotic Lacidofil (95% L. rhamnosus Rosell-11 and 5% L. Rosell-52) on the clinical course and Ig profile to cow's milk in infants (<4 years old) with atopic dermatitis (AD) was studied. The treatment group (n=30) received Lacidofil and Trixera emollient cream and bath. The control group (n=30) received the same treatments except for malto-dextrin instead of Lacidofil. Outcome measures were the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index, total IgE, and specific IgE, and IgG4 to cow's milk. The treatment group had a significant decrease in SCORAD (p<0.01), while the controls almost achieved significance versus baseline (p=0.05). Total IgE was unchanged in both groups.
