Development and validation of a questionnaire assessing the quality of life of caregivers in pediatric atopic dermatitis

A 19-item questionnaire was developed to assess the quality of life in primary caregivers of children (mean age 39 months) with atopic dermatitis (AD), the QPCAD. It was developed from 33 pilot interviews with primary caregivers (mean age 39 years) and validated in 416 caregivers. The QPCAD was divided into several categories: exhaustion; worry about AD; family cooperation; and achievement. The reliability of internal consistency was fair (Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.66-0.87). QPCAD subscales correlated with psychological and physical health, and anxiety and depression severity scores. Test-retest reliability and response to change was satisfactory.
