Evidence-based guidelines have been recently published on the management of chronic hand eczema. Management strategies comprised lifestyle changes (such as avoidance of allergens) and topical therapies such as emollients, barriers, steroids, tacrolimus, pimecrolimus and bexarotene gel. Systemic therapies comprised corticosteroids, ciclosporin, azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, acitretin, alitretinoin, interferon-gamma, intravenous immunoglobulin, infliximab and Chinese herbs. Photo(chemo) therapy options included ultraviolet B, psoralen ultraviolet A and ultraviolet A 1 (English, J. et al. Clin Exptl Dermatol 2009, 34(7): 761).
