Noncultured epidermal suspension transplantation promising for the treatment of pediatric stable vitiligo

 
 

A new study has examined the efficacy and safety of autologous noncultured epidermal suspension transplantation for the treatment of stable pediatric vitiligo in 13 patients (aged 8-17 years). The patients had a total of 19 lesions with stable vitiligo. At the end of 1 year, 15 out of 19 lesions (79%) had > 90% repigmentation while the remaining 4 lesions had 75-90% repigmentation. Outcomes were independent of age, gender, site or size of lesion, type or duration of vitiligo. The majority of color matches (84.2%) were excellent at the final visit. No major adverse events were seen (Sahni, K. et al Clin Exptl Dermatol 2011, 36: 607).
