The impact of chronic pruritus on depression, quality of life (QoL) and activities of daily living (ADL) was examined in 73 patients with the condition. Assessments were made using the Beck Depression Inventory-2 (BDI-2) and the EuroQoL (EQ-5D); QoL and ADL data were derived from the EQ-5D domains. A significant correlation between pruritus severity and depression as assessed by the BDI-2 was found (r=0.354; p=0.003). However, only pruritus severity and ADL were found to be significant predictors for QoL, accounting for more than half (53.6%) of the variance.
