A large cross-sectional, population-based study assessed the association between psoriasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Data reviewed came from 10,516 psoriasis patients and 21,302 age- and gender-matched subjects without psoriasis. COPD was more prevalent in psoriasis subjects (5.8% vs. 1.2%; p<0.001, odds ratio [OR]: 4.97). This relationship still held after controlling for confounding factors such as age, gender, smoking, hypertension, etc (OR: 1.66; p<0.001) (Dreiher, J. et al. 5th Int Spring Symp EADV (May 22-25, Istanbul) 2008.
