Quality of life in atopic dermatitis patients and their partners

 
 

A cross-sectional study assessed the quality of life (QoL) of 266 patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and their spouses using the Short Form-12 (SF-12), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and an idiosyncratic measure regarding sexual functioning. AD severity was assessed using the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) scale. The mean DLQI, physical and mental composite SF-12 scores were 8.8, 50.7 and 39.5, respectively. All 3 scores were significantly related to the SCORAD scale. A decrease in sexual desire was noted in 57.5% of patients and 36.5% reported an impact on their sex life.
