The relationship between pruritus in chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) and psoriasis and the experience of negative emotions by the patient was investigated in 41 CIU patients, 44 psoriasis patients and 49 healthy subjects. The questionnaires used were the Twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), the Symptom Checklist 90-R (SCL-90-R) and the State Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI). CIU and psoriasis patients had increased alexithymia, emotional distress, depression, anxiety and state anger versus controls. State anger was the only significant predictor of pruritus severity in CIU patients; in psoriasis patients it was depression (Conrad, R. et al. JEADV 2008, 22[9]: 1062-1069). --> -->
