Scoring skin disease severity in pediatric dermatology: Use of a new scale

 
 

A simplified system for scoring of skin diseases, the Three Item Severity score (TIS) was described and compared with the SCORing Atopic Dermatis index (SCORAD) in a prospective study of 126 children with mild to severe atopic dermatitis (AD). The TIS was based on the assessment of erythema, edema/population and excoriation on a scale of 0 to 3. Both the TIS and SCORAD were assessed by trained investigators. The TIS and SCORAD were found to be highly correlated (r=0.86; p<0.01). Interobserver agreement was excellent for the SCORAD and fair for the TIS.
