Adiposity correlated with psoriasis severity in Japanese patients

 
 

To evaluate the association between obesity/adiposity and psoriasis in Japanese psoriasis patients, 122 patients were enrolled into a study in which body mass index (BMI), percent body fat (%BF) and visceral adiposity were assessed along with plasma levels of adipocytokines. BMI, %BF and visceral adiposity were all increased in the psoriasis patients compared to a control group of 78 healthy subjects. The obesity measures were correlated with Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) severity, with a higher correlation was seen with %BF and visceral adiposity than with BMI.
