A controlled trial of a behavioral modification program for mothers of children with atopic dermatitis


A 6-month, investigator-blinded, randomized, controlled trial evaluated the effects of a behavioral modification program on mothers of 34 children with atopic dermatitis (AD) on AD severity and parents' quality of life (QoL). The children's ages ranged from 6 months to 5 years and the parents were randomized to a 2-day hands-on behavioral modification session and 3 follow-ups by nurse educators, or a control group. Evaluations included SCORing Atopic Dermatitis Index (SCORAD), Quality of life in Primary Caregivers of children with Atopic Dermatitis (QPCAD), Family Impact of Childhood Eczema (DFI) and Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS).
