Role of eosinophilic cationic protein in atopic dermatitis severity

 
 

The relationship between eosinophilic cationic protein (ECP) and atopic dermatitis (AD) severity was assessed in 50 AD patients (aged 5 months-14 years). ECP serum levels, a quality of life (QoL) questionnaire, presence of 13 different lesion types, body surface area (BSA) involvement and recent medication use were measured. Significant correlations with ECP were found for the extent of BSA involvement as were presence of popular lesions, skin cracking and excoriation. No correlation with ECP was found for QoL responses, recent medication use and total clinical severity scores (Malloy, C.A. et al.
