Variations in CCL20 and CCR6 genes are associated with atopic eczema in European American and African American patients

 
 

A study evaluated which variations in the CCL20 gene and its receptor CCR6 were relevant for atopic dermatitis (AD), and atopic dermatitis eczema herpeticum (ADEH). The study included 321 European Americans (EAs), 307 African Americans (AAs), 83 EAs and 16 AA patients with ADEH and healthy controls. In the EA group, the promoter rs13034664 in CCL20 was significantly associated with AD and ADEH. A flanking single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs3138119 was significantly associated with ADEH in the AA group and the SNP rs940339 was associated with ADEH in the EA group.
