Platelet activation markers in patients with atopic dermatitis: Relation to disease severity

The relationships between platelet-derived microparticles (PDMPs) and soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin) and clinical parameters in atopic dermatitis (AD) were investigated in 46 AD patients, 20 nonatopic urticaria (NAU) patients and 22 age- and gender-matched normal controls (NCs). The other parameters measured were the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis Index (SCORAD), serum IgE, serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and eosinophil counts. Plasma levels of PDMPs and sP-selectin were significantly higher in AD patients than those in NAUs or NCs. Also sP-selectin and PDMPs were significantly correlated in AD patients (r=0.648; p<0.0001). Weak but significant correlations were found between SCORAD and PDMP and SCORAD and sP-selectin (r= 0.46; p=0.0009; r=0.389; p<0.001, respectively). No significant correlations were found between ...
