An inception-cohort study with a nested-case control analysis was conducted to assess and compare the risk of cardiovascular (CV) events in psoriasis patients. The specific CV events were myocardial infarction (MI), transient ischemic attacks (TIA) or stroke. Patients with a first time diagnosis of psoriasis (n=36,702) from 1994-2005 were included in the analysis with an age- and gender-matched control group. Overall, the risk of MI, TIA or stroke was similar in both psoriasis patients and controls. However, in patients aged < 60 years the odds ratio (OR) for MI in psoriasis patients was 1.66.
