Beneficial effects of synbiotics on intestinal microbiota of infants with atopic dermatitis

 
 

A 12-week, randomized, double-blind, multicenter, placebo-controlled trial evaluated the effects of Immunofortis® (a hydrolyzed formula with Bifidobacterium breve M16-V and a short-chain galacto/long-chain fructo-oligosaccharide mixture) in 90 infants with atopic dermatitis (AD), aged less than 7 months. The controls received the same formula without the synbiotics. Fecal composition and metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota were examined at weeks 1 and 12 and parents reported gastric symptoms and information in a diary.
