Family impact of pediatric atopic dermatitis and emollient use: A multicenter study

 
 

The effects of mild-moderate pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) on the quality of life (QoL) of   parents of affected children (N = 191) was evaluated in a UK eight-center study. The children (aged 1-12 years) were treated b.i.d. with an emollient containing 20% shea butter. Its efficacy and tolerability were assessed at baseline (T0) and at 3 months (T3). QoL was assessed by a specific questionnaire. SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) scores decreased by 58% at T3 and 81% of parents observed a 53% improvement in their QoL (P < 0.05).
