Educational programs are important complementary measures in medicine and psychosomatics, including patients with chronic pruritus. The content, implementation and patients' perspectives and experiences with a multidisciplinary program on pruritus education were discussed. Trainers comprised dermatologists, psychologists and health educators. Topics comprised factor constellations causing pruritus, diagnostic and relaxation techniques, skin anatomy and physiology, therapeutic measures, scratch diaries, the itch-scratch cycle, coping with itch, and stress management. Patients' perceptions and experiences of the program were very positive (Bathe, A. et al. Acta Derm Venereol 2009, 89(5): 498).
