Follicular mucinosis treatment with tacrolimus ointment

 
 

A case report of a 12-year-old female with follicular mucinosis treated with tacrolimus 0.1% ointment was published. The patient was initially treated as if she had facial tinea and was given a topical antimycotic for 15 days. Histological and immunohistochemical tests later confirmed a diagnosis of follicular mucinosis. The patient was finally treated with tacrolimus ointment and total lesion regression was noted after 15 days. Progress was satisfactory at a 9-month follow-up. Previous treatments for this condition have included diverse agents such as steroids, dapsone, indomethacin, interferons, isotretinoin, minocycline and ultraviolet A with variable success.
