Atopic dermatitis not associated with deletion of late cornified envelope 3b and 3C genes

Atopic dermatitis not associated with deletion of late cornified envelope 3b and 3C genes

A possible association between late cornified envelope (LCE3C_LCE3B-del) and atopic dermatitis (AD) was investigated in a study of 1,075 AD patients and 1,658 controls. These gene clusters were previously believed to be involved in psoriasis. The subjects were from four different cohorts of European ancestry from the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Ireland. The study did not provide evidence of such an association, nor did a subgroup analysis of those patients with both AD and asthma. The authors concluded that the pathogeneses of AD and psoriasis are based on distinct genetic causes (Bergberger, J.G.M. et al. J Invest Dermatol 2010, 130: 2057).
