The role of the Brahama-related gene-1 in the development of melanocytic lesions was examined in 48 dysplastic nevi (DN), 90 primary melanomas (PM) and 47 metastatic melanomas (MM). Moderate-strong BRG-1 staining was recorded in 38, 73 and 79% of DN, PM and MM samples, respectively. There was a significant difference between DN and PM and DN and MM samples (P < 0.001 for both) but no difference between PM and MM (P = 0.488). However, there was no correlation between survival and BRG-1 expression. Thus BRG-1 appears to play an important role in melanomagenesis (Lin, H. et al. Br J Dermatol 2010, 163: 502).
