Clinical features described for atopic dermatitis in a hospital setting in China

 
 

A profile of the clinical features of 1,008 patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) in a Chinese university hospital setting has been published. In this survey, 22.7, 66.6 and 10.7% of patients had mild, moderate and severe AD, respectively. Asthma was observed in 16.7% of AD patients and the frequency increased significantly with age. Three localized variants including eyelid eczema, scalp dermatitis and intra-auricular and retroauricular fissuring were seen in 49.8, 49.7 and 44.8% of patients, respectively, especially in the infantile phase (P < 0.01). The role of common food allergens diminished after the age of 6 years (Shi, M. et al. JEADV 2011, 25: 1206).
