A study investigated whether or not promoter polymorphisms of the major histocompatibility complex HLA-E, HLA-F or HLA-G are associated with increased risk of vitiligo. Two hundred and forty-one patients with nonsegmental vitiligo and 395 healthy controls were included in the study. The HLA-G gene was significantly correlated with the age of onset of nonsegmental vitiligo, but there was no association with genes HLA-E and HLA-F in the Korean population studied (Kim, S.K. et al. Arch Dermatol Res 2011, 303: 679).
