New data on the cellular effects of antigen-pulsed dendritic cell vaccination in melanoma

 
 

Researchers at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine (Kyoto, Japan) assessed the differences in the populations of helper and regulatory T-cells in the peripheral blood of 9 melanoma patients before and after vaccination with monocyte-derived melanoma antigen-pulsed dendritic cells (DCs). In most patients, repeated DC vaccination increased the populations of T-cells positive for CD24 and CD25, and of T-cells positive for CD24, CD25 and the forkhead box protein 3 (Foxp3), and also increased the intracellular levels of Foxp3 mRNA. Other patients showed increases in these populations of T-cells but decreased levels of Foxp3 mRNA.
