A variety of questionnaires was used to assess the impact of atopic dermatitis (AD) on quality of life in 51 Irish infants (mean age 23 months) and their families. The infants were seen over 6 months. The questionnaires comprised the Infants' Dermatitis Quality of Life Index (IDQOL), Dermatitis Family Impact Questionnaire (DFIQ) and Patient Orientated Eczema Measure (POEM). AD severity was graded by Three Item Severity Score (TISS), together with a 5-point scale ranging from "completely clear" to "very severe", assessed by patients and doctors.
