Lipoprotein(a) in psoriasis patients: Association with lipid profiles and disease severity

The levels of lipoprotein(a) and its association with other lipids and disease severity were assessed in 34 psoriasis patients and 24 healthy controls. Patients with psoriasis had significantly higher levels of lipoprotein(a) than controls (34.24 vs. 21.88 mg/dl; p = 0.029). In both patients and controls, lipoprotein(a) correlated positively with total and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Lipoprotein(a) correlated with the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) in patients (r = 0.46; p < 0.01). A pathogenetic link may exist between lipoprotein(a) levels and psoriasis (Pietrzak, A. et al. Int J Dermatol 2009, 4894: 379).
