Systemic tacrolimus is effective in severe atopic dermatitis

 
 

A case series in a group of recalcitrant atopic dermatitis (AD) patients was reported from Australia. These comprised AD patients who had failed to respond to established topical and systemic corticosteroids, ciclosporin and topical calcineurin inhibitors. Systemic tacrolimus effected successful disease control and was well tolerated in these patients. No details of patient numbers, doses or treatment duration were provided in the abstract (Preda, V. et al. Australas J Dermatol 2009, 50(Suppl. 1): A35).
