Efficacy of low-dose isotretinoin with topical clindamycin in acne vulgaris

A 6-month open-label, prospective, noncomparative trial in 320 patients (mean age 17.7 years) with moderately severe acne vulgaris were enrolled in a trial of fixed low-dose isotretinoin (20 mg on alternate days) and twice daily topical clindamycin gel. The primary efficacy endpoint was the percentage reduction of total acne load between baseline and at the end of 6 months. Results were graded as "very good" (> 80% reduction of lesions) and "good" (50-80% reduction); such results were regarded to be clinically significant.
