Clinical efficacy of topical tacrolimus in facial steroid-dependent dermatitis

The efficacy and safety of 0.1% tacrolimus ointment was evaluated in 28 patients with facial dermatitis that was corticosteroid dependent. Patients were treated once daily with tacrolimus ointment and evaluated at baseline and at 1, 2 and 4 weeks and 2 weeks post-withdrawal of tacrolimus. Patients were given an efficacy score: cured (> 90%); markedly effective (60-80%) ad moderately effective (20-59%). Adverse events were also monitored. At 4 weeks, marked and moderate improvement were seen in 65% and 31% of patients, respectively. Persistent improvement, unchanged and rebound effects (≥ 30% increase in scores) were seen in 27%, 23% and 46% of patients, respectively at 2 weeks post-withdrawal. Erythema and scaly lesions ...
