Interleukin-10 levels in vitiligo lesions after topical tacrolimus treatment

 
 

A 3-month study in 20 adult patients with vitiligo assessed the effects of topical tacrolimus ointment 0.1% on vitiligo lesion size and interleukin-10 (IL-10) expression in nonvitiliginous skin and lesioned skin pre- and post-treatment. Vitiligo lesion size decreased by a mean of 41% over 3 months of treatment (P = 1.879 x 10-6). There was a statistically significant increase in IL-10 expression in vitiligo lesions post-treatment at 3 months compared with untreated lesions (P = 0.017) and normal skin (P = 0.004). There was no difference between control samples and vitiligo lesions pretreatment (P = 0.222).
