Two regimens of topical steroid therapy for bullous pemphigoid: A controlled study

 
 

A multicenter, randomized, stratified, controlled trial assessed the effects of two different topical corticosteroid regimens in the treatment of 312 patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP). Randomization was to a standard regimen (clobetasone propionate cream, 40 mg/day initially with a 12-month taper) or a mild regimen (10-30 g/day with a 4-month taper). Stratification was to moderate (n = 134) or extensive (n = 178) BP. A noninferior rate of BP control was found with the mild regimen (98%) versus the standard one (100%; P = 0.005).
