Safety and tolerability of onabotulinumtoxinA in the treatment of facial lines: A meta-analysis

 
 

A meta-analysis of six randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies and three open-label studies assessed the safety and tolerability of onabotulinumtoxinA in the treatment of facial lines. These trials comprised 1,678 subjects and involved doses between 3 and 20 U/side, and were taken from global registration studies. The studied population was mainly female (88%), 43% were non-Hispanic white and 52% were Asian. In the double-blind, controlled studies, the only individual adverse events which were significantly more frequent than placebo were eyelid sensory disorder (2.5 vs. 0.3%; P = 0.004) and eyelid ptosis (1.8 vs. 0%; P = 0.02), both in glabellar studies.
