Guidelines of care for the treatment of psoriasis with phototherapy and photochemotherapy

In 2010 guidelines of care for the treatment of psoriasis with phototherapy or photochemotherapy have been published. The modalities discussed are narrowband (NB) or broadband (BB) ultraviolet B (UVB) phototherapy, alone or with topical agents such as steroids, calcipotriol or tazarotene. Co-therapy with systemic agents such as methotrexate, ciclosporin and retinoids are also discussed. UVB and psoralen/ultraviolet A (PUVA) therapy alone and with biologics such as alefacept and etanercept are discussed as are the use of excimer laser, Grenz rays and PUVA photochemotherapy with oral 8-methoxypsoralen. Trials comparing BB-UVB versus NB-UVB and NB-UVB versus oral PUVA are also included (Menter, A. et al. J Am Acad Dermatol 2010, 62(1): 114).
