Therapy for psoriasis in patients with HIV infection

 
 

The Medical Board of the National Psoriasis Foundation has produced a consensus guideline on therapy for psoriasis in HIV patients. Twenty-nine reports were identified in the literature from which recommendations were made. First-line therapies for mild-moderate disease comprised calcipotriol, corticosteroids, tazarotene and combinations of calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate. First-line therapy for moderate-severe disease comprised UV therapy and antiretrovirals. Second-line therapy for moderate-severe disease was oral retinoids, while severe refractory psoriasis could be treated with ciclosporin, methotrexate, tumor necrosis alpha inhibitors or hydroxyurea (Menon, K. et al. J Am Acad Dermatol 2010, 62: 291).
