CC chemokines as potential immunological markers correlated with improvement in AD treated with immunotherapy

 
 

A study in 20 atopic dermatitis (AD) patients treated with immunotherapy investigated changes in clinical and immunological markers to determine which ones correlated with improvement. The patients were treated for 12-60 months with subcutaneous immunotherapy with house dust mite allergens (HDM). Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) scores, CCL17, CCL22, CCL18, total and specific HDM IgE levels were measured before and after therapy. Significant decreases in CCL17, CCL22 and CCL18 were seen between baseline and after treatment. The mean EASI score fell from 21.4 before treatment to 5.4 post-treatment (P < 0.001).
