A French retrospective study to describe the frequency, clinical features and prognosis of 69 adult reactive hemophagocytic syndrome (RHS) patients was conducted. The etiology was mainly B- or T-cell lymphomas or herpesvirus infection. Cutaneous manifestations were seen in 46% of patients, the majority comprising a generalized nonpruritic maculopapular rash of nonspecific histology. One patient had cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis. Cutaneous involvement was not significantly associated with in-hospital mortality (Fardet, l. et al Br J Dermatol 2010, 16293): 547).
