A 10-year follow-up of atopic dermatitis patients treated with topical tacrolimus

 
 

A Finnish study assessed the 10-year outcomes of affected body surface area (BSA), respiratory symptoms and serum IgE in 50 atopic dermatitis (AD) patients, 6 years after a 4-year intervention with tacrolimus ointment 0.1%. The median affected BSA decreased significantly from 19.1% at baseline to 1.6% during the 10-year follow-up (P < 0.0001). At baseline 42 and 52% of patients had active asthma and rhinitis, respectively. At the 10-year follow-up the incidence was 20% (P = 0.04) and 36% (P = 0.24), respectively.
