Profile of lichen planus pigmentosus and its response to tacrolimus

 
 

An open-label, nonrandomized, prospective study evaluated the clinicopathological profile of lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) and its response to topical tacrolimus ointment 0.03% in 33 patients aged 22-58 years. The duration of eruptions ranged from 6 weeks to 3 years and the face and neck were the most common sites affected (in 54.5%). A diffuse pattern of pigmentation was common (in 54%) and 20 patients were hepatitis C positive with raised ALT and AST levels. Thirteen patients were treated with tacrolimus and after an average of 12 weeks, seven patients had lighter pigmentation (Al-Mutairi, N., El-Khalawany, M. JEADV 2010, 24(5): 535).
