Efficacy of a new barrier glove in the treatment and prophylaxis of hand eczema

 
 

A new water- and allergen-proof, breathable, nonallergenic barrier glove was evaluated versus a potent steroid ointment in the treatment of moderate-severe hand eczema. The 3-week study was of a noninferiority design. Outcomes were measured by the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index and the Hand Eczema Severity Index (HECSI). The additional benefit of a second antibacterial silk glove worn under the barrier glove was also assessed. SOCRAD and HECSI values decreased in both groups. The mean relative difference in SCORAD between study endpoint and baseline was 45 and 34% for the glove and steroid group, respectively.
