Segmental and nonsegmental pediatric vitiligo: Clinical characteristics

 
 

A French, prospective, multicenter, observational study compared the clinical features of nonsegmental vitiligo (NSV) and segmental vitiligo (SV) in 14 children with a mean age of 8.3 years. Twenty-five patients had SV and 89 had NSV. NSV patients had a significantly higher number of lesions (> 5 patches) compared with SV patients (P < 0.001) and a larger body surface area affected (P = 0.01). A higher frequency of Koebner phenomenon (P = 0.03) and more frequent progression of disease (P = 0.043) was seen with NSV. Rim hyperpigmentation was only seen in NSV patients (P = 0.001).
