The possible utility of using serum thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC) as a diagnostic marker for atopic dermatitis (AD) was investigated in 87 children (< 2 years). Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels were also assessed. Of the 87 children, 55 and 45% had AD or other allergic/nonallergic diseases, respectively. AD was classified according to the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index and 37, 11 and 7% had mild, moderate and severe AD, respectively. A weak but significant link was seen between age and TARC levels in non-AD patients (r = −0.40).
