C3 gene polymorphism associated with atopic dermatitis severity

 
 

As keratinocytes in the skin secrete C3 and release C3 after stimulation with proinflammatory cytokines, and increased levels of C3a in the circulation have been noted in diseases related to atopic dermatitis (AD), polymorphisms within the C3 gene were studied for their association with the risk of AD. Four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were evaluated in 96 well-characterized adult patients with mild-to-severe AD and in 49 nonatopic subjects. A trend towards higher frequencies of rs10410674 and rs366510 were seen in AD patients compared to controls. None of the C3 polymorphisms were associated with susceptibility and risk of AD.
