The link between atopic dermatitis and food allergy is still a subject of debate. The prevalence of and risk factors for food allergy in pediatric patients with atopic dermatitis were investigated. A total of 400 consecutive patients in a French multidisciplinary pediatric allergology clinic were included. Data collected were patient characteristics, medical and family history of atopic dermatitis. Food allergy was based on positive skin tests, specific IgE levels or positive response to oral food challenge. The majority of the pediatric patients (386 of 400) were diagnosed with atopic dermatitis.
