The expression of the human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) molecule in lesional and nonlesional skin from 30 psoriasis patients and normal skin from 32 healthy controls was examined. Correlations with epidemiological and clinical variables were assessed. Of the 30 patients, 13 had type I (early onset) and 17 had type II (late onset) disease. HLA-G expression was detected in 90% of skin specimens from patients with clinical and histopathological features of psoriasis. HLA-G expression was also found in 27% of nonlesional skin from patients. No HLA-G expression was found in the controls (P < 0.0001).
