Genetic variants in thymic stromal lymphopoietin increase the risk of atopic dermatitis

Variants of thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and its receptor IL7R that may confer susceptibility to atopic dermatitis (AD) were studied in 2 independent groups of patients and healthy controls. These comprised European Americans (EA; n=321) and African Americans (AA; n=307); an additional group of 83 EA patients with atopic dermatitis eczema herpeticum (ADEH) were also genotyped. In the AA group, significant associations were found for 2 TSLP single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs 1004395 (p=0.03); rs 2289276 (p=0.02) and one IL7R SNP (p=0.03) and risk of AD. The TSLP SNP rs 2416259 (p=0.03) was associated with AD in the EA group and together with 3 IL7R SNPs rs 12516866 (p=0.04); rs ...
