High prevalence of HLA-Cw*0602 irrespective of phenotype in pediatric psoriasis

The prevalence of the gene HLA-Cw*0602 was examined in 246 children with a psoriasis onset at < 15 years. The phenotypic distribution in this group was 18% guttate and 82% plaque, which was similar to that found in an adult-onset psoriasis group (22% guttate and 78% plaque). A significantly higher prevalence of HLA-Cw*0602 was found in the pediatric cohort compared with the adult one (69 vs. 39%). Matched healthy controls only had a prevalence of 10% (Lysell, J. et al. 40th Meeting Eur Soc Dermatol Res [Sept 8-11, Helsinki] 2010, Abst 052).
