Nail psoriasis treated with a calcipotriol/betamethasone formulation

 
 

A 12-week open-label trial in 25 patients with nail psoriasis evaluated the efficacy of a topical calcipotriol (50 mcg/g)/betamethasone dipropionate 0.05% ointment once daily. The primary outcome measure was the decrease in the Nail Psoriasis and Severity Index (NAPSI) at week 12. Twenty-two patients with a mean NAPSI score of 5.8 at baseline completed the study. At 12 weeks the mean NAPSI score was 1.6 (p<0.01), a reduction of 72%. Significant improvements in hyperkeratosis and onycholysis and a slight improvement in pitting were also seen. Two patients had mild, limited fingertip irritation (Rigopulos, D. et al. Dermatology 2009, 218(4): 338).
